WHAT IS A BOOSTER PUMP FOR?
Booster pumps are used to maintain ideal water pressure in tall or high-set buildings and in areas with low or fluctuating water pressure.
As pressure drops in the tank, the pump draws water from the water supply line, increasing the pressure in the tank and boosting the water pressure in the building. A typical booster pump system consists of a pump, motor, pressure tank and controller.
HOW TO CHOOSE A BOOSTER PUMP
1. DETERMINE THE PERFORMANCE REQUIRED FROM YOUR PUMP:
As a majority of pumps are rated in feet of head, it is important to first determine the amount of pressure needed to be boosted in PSI and convert it to feet of head using this formula: PSI x 2.31 = feet head
As an example, someone looking to boost water pressure from 25 PSI to 40 PSI will require a booster pump capable of producing 15 PSI, which is an equivalent of 34.65 feet head.
2. SELECT YOUR PUMP TYPE
After the performance required from the pump has been determined, the best type of pump for your application needs to be selected. Among factors to consider are the required maintenance, warranty options as well as the location the pump will be placed as areas with limited access will present maintenance and repair challenges.
SINGLE STAGE BOOSTER PUMPS– These pumps are attached to a main water supply pipe from which they draw water into a building water system. Check our range of Single Stage Booster Pumps here http://bit.ly/1UcCpsX
MULTIPLE STAGE BOOSTER PUMPS – These pumps use centrifugal force to pull the water up into the system. They are often used in connection with underground water supplies in light irrigation applications. Check our range of Multiple Stage Booster Pumps here http://bit.ly/28i0nZW
MANUAL OR AUTOMATIC CONTROLLER?
MANUAL OPERATING SYSTEMS – These pump systems require manual monitoring to turn on a switch to increase water pressure.
AUTOMATED OPERATING SYSTEMS – These systems monitor the water pressure and automatically turn on when there is a need for more water.
